 02 Guidelines

  • 1: The intent of this assignment is to gain skill in the usage of basic shapes, pen tool, transformation functions, pathfinder functions (or Shape Builder), global swatches, and gradients.

2: In Part 02, you will draw a colour illustration of a mechanical object.

    - This could be blender, espresso maker, vinyl record player, game controller, stereo, sewing machine etc. (Nintendo Switches are banned)

3: To ensure that your chosen mechanical object is not too complex or too simple, it is required that you email your choice (or possible choices) before Class05.

    - Use a direct profile (side, front, top) view of the chosen object, not a perspective view.

    - Use a direct profile (side, front, top) view of the chosen object, not a perspective view.

2: All Objects must have Global Colour Swatches applied to them. Even those used in Gradients. All Gradients will be built entirely on Global Colour Swatches

    - Hint - Build the Colours first, then begin drawing

    - NOTE: Use TINTS. Instead of making grays, make a Black and use Tints to make your grays

3: A photograph (not an illustration) must be used as a template and the photograph must be EMBEDDED in the assignment file.

    - 10% grade deduction for not embedding the image in Part 2

    - A full 0% for the entire assignment if it is missing in Part 3.

4: Try to duplicate the photograph as faithfully as you can. It will not appear absolutely realistic, but it will be a very skilled and visually appealing drawing.

    - Provide some context for the object drawn, such as a colour background and a shadow.

    - Ensure the object is not too large or too small on the Artboard. Consider composition.

5: Do not use the Image Trace Software Feature or Live Paint. - Doing so will incur an automatic failing grade of 0%.

    6: Outline all Fonts used.

7: Organize the file, ensuring all Layers and Groups are named.

    - Make Groups to organize multiple associated objects and paths. - You do not need to name every Path

8: Any logos must be recreated (drawn).

9: This file will be named: Firstname_Familyname_Assignment05.ai - Save it on D2L, Assignments, in the Assignment05_Part02 Folder NOTE: Incorrect file naming will result in a 10% grade deduction

  • 1: Based on the Critique make all Technical and Visual changes to the Assignment.

    - Failure to Self-Assess and make requested change do so will cost heavily on this portion of the grade.

2: This file will be named: Firstname_Familyname_Assignment05.ai - Save it on D2L, Assignments, in the Assignment05_Part03 Folder NOTE: Incorrect file naming will result in a 10% grade deduction
